Chrysanthemums

Chrysanthemum flowers like these are usually bought for prayers at home or in a temple. Every first and fifteenth day of the Chinese Lunar month, florists in our HDB estates and in the wet markets and even in the supermarkets will be stocking an abundance of these flowers. As tomorrow is the fifteenth or last day of the Chinese New Year celebrations, there was almost like an endless supply of these flowers of many varieties and colours. Some of the flowers were even dyed.

I was in the vicintity of Waterloo Street when I saw these huge Chrysanthemum flowers at one of the numerous stalls in front of the Waterloo Street Kwan Yin Temple. I asked permission to photograph these impressive looking flowers that you could buy to offer to the Goddess of Mercy when you pray at the temple and was told that the colours of these flowers, except the yellow ones, were artificially infused.

Lotus buds are the preferences of some devotees at the temple.

Look again, these swans are made from many Chrysanthemum flowers painstakingly put together for our enjoyment.

A lovely backdrop for family photos.
Spring is on the wall.
You would wish to just sit and look at these flowers all day.

Sentosa Flower Show - Chrysanthemum

I have not seen this type of Chrysanthemum flowers before. They make me think of beautiful silk kimonos that flow with rich embroidery the colours of royalty. I just love these flowers!

Chrysanthemum flowers

Chrysanthemum tea, that's all I think of at the mention of this flower. Other than the usual varieties at the market place that are especially popular on the 1st and 15th day of the Lunar month, I do not get to see exciting ones such as these that were seen at the Garden Festival (Dec 2006) and the Sentosa Flower Show during Chinese New Year in Feb 2006.
