I have heliconias in my garden. These were seen at Bukit Batok Nature Reserve close to noon. While people stay away from the sweltering heat, these flowers are most brilliant when the sun is shining brightly. And so I braved UV exposure to capture them with my camera for their brilliance was just too much to resist.

Okay, so I had fun taking these photos. I love using large aperture settings to blur the backgrounds.

I knew it was a heliconia when I saw it but it was one that I had not seen anywhere else. That was many months ago. Subsequently, I would come across these blooms now and then and took pictures of them because they looked so bright and healthy. They were labeled and I took a picture of the name but now I cannot seem to find that photo. I will I guess on day. Meanwhile, flowers should be enjoyed and today is the day for these flowers on this blog.

Flowers in paint

I have run out of interesting photos to upload so I thought perhaps I should post my paintings of flowers instead. These paintings are part of a bigger painting that is currently in progress. I have been procrastinating too long in my quest to paint but once I got started, I was hooked on the acitivity. I only wish that I could take a few weeks' break and disappear into some nice retreat with plenty of flowers and plants and just paint to my heart's content. As it is I only get to do this at night and the colours are rather 'cold' because of the flourescent lighting. Still, just getting hands-on with the acrylic paints and brushes is a great feeling!

The nicest gift for yourself is not always something that you can get from a shopping mall. Today I received such a present from nature. Of all the shades of red, this one is the one I like most and nature knew that and used it to attract my attention.
