Pansies - flowers from a cooler climate

My son referred to these flowers as 'angry-looking flowers'. I agree with him. Why do these flowers look so angry? Here are some possible answers:
Someone forgot to feed me, hrmph!
My wife took the kids and left home and cleaned out my bank account!
I used the wrong suntan lotion and see what it did to my face!
I used a skin whitener and see now I am semi-bleached.
I'm just sad because all my friends are gone and I am the last to wilt.
Someone got our colours wrong, we should have been red and yellow. We're just born this way.

Garden in Summer

I wish for a garden like this in Singapore. Perhaps when the Garden by the Bay opens, we will have visual treats similar to these in Australia. My excuse for posting these photos here is to have a reminder to myself that I should do an oil or acrylic painting soon based on one or both of these beautiful scenes.

Time fillers - Until I set my eyes on some flowers in Singapore again

Like performers at a carnival...Like a new punk hairdo (Globe artichoke)..Like a baby girl's bottle brush...Like the flowers have gone out of my life...

Roses

These flowers were not at the peak of their lives but even they are not less worthy of a chance to have a public appearance. There is something about this photo that I like that I cannot explain. Whatever it is, I feel it has a message for everyone though that message may be perceived differently by each.

Yucca flowers

The few times I came across these flowers in Singapore, they were too high up and were out of my reach. It was thus delightful to find these flowering Yucca plants in a Botanic Garden in Australia that gave me full liberty to take as many pictures as I liked and allowed me to go close to the individual flowers to take a really close look.

Protea

I was a little early for the debut of this large protea flower. Still, there was much to admire in the texture of this bud and the arrangement of the leaves.

Drawing on my stock of Australian flower photos again to spice up this blog with vibrant colours of nature.

Afternoon flowers

The first time I saw them, they looked like they had been freshly gathered from the wild countryside by someone who simply wanted these flowers to grace this particular room. If I could choose a view for these lovely flowers, I would have preferred an ocean view so that the blue of the sky and the blue of the sea could meet in a clean line near the bottom of the vase and form a backdrop that would accentuate the rich purple of the petals. If only that could be possible.

Lavandula augustifolia (Lavender) - For Alice

If you only you can smell
the Lavender flowers
as I could
when I was there
If only we could
always be surrounded by beauty
as I was
when I was there
'If ' is just a word
we use when we wish for something
that we believe we really need
to be cheerful and happy
At times we do not see possibilities
until they materialise before our eyes
like I did not know that lavender flowers
could be white or pink as well
Or that they must be shaped in the way
that we have been used to
So many flowers, so many photos taken
of lavenders, if only...

A bouquet of roses

Nature's presentation on a lovely spring day
I had to hesitate reaching out to take it away
Admire us, love us where we are
We die in your hands if we venture far
If you touch us you will bleed
or would you rather we live
the rest of our time here in a vase
in water coloured with your blood
where you watch us wilt before your eyes
bit by bit, hour by hour
minute by minute
second
by
second
till
we are no more

Purple flowers

I have the name of these flowers somewhere in a book and it will take some time to retrieve it. For now, these purple flowers are all I need for the new day.
