Slipper Orchids

One of the few exhibits in the Singapore Garden Festival that caught my eye and that held my attention for a long time.

What palm is this?

Right in front of the Visitor Centre of the Singapore Botanical Gardens, beneath the shades of a gigantic Heritage Tree are these huge fan-shaped leaves of a kind of palm. What attracted me were the dangling inflorescence looking like baits at the end of fishing lines.
There were buds and flowers...
...and a spider couple smiling for the camera.

Gardenia Carinata?

This unusual yellow flower was photographed near the new entrance to the Botanical Gardens next to the Taman Serasi food court. I have not been able to identify it. Browsing throughmy books yielded a possible identity - that of the Kedah Gardenia or Gardenia carinata which is a medium-sized tree. That was what caused me to doubt if I had the right flower because what I saw was a shrub and it did not occur to me that I was looking at something that would grow into a tree. There were no signs or labels to identify these flowers, what a pity.
