Golden Showers

Golden showers were in bloom in the past week everywhere I saw them. They were dripping with flowers that hang like flower necklaces against the sky. I hope they carry on blooming for a few more weeks to cheer us up in these days of much rain and dark skies.

A celebration of flowers

The rains came and then the sun came out in full force. The flowers are blooming everywhere. Great encounters with:

The Cassia fistula (Golden Shower) along Clementi Avenue 6. Thanks to a traffic jam, I was able to get these shots of the trees in full bloom on the road divider.

Cassia fistula - Golden Showers

It is possible that people take on characteristics projected by the sound of their names or the way the names look when written. Or is it the other way around that people are named because they just look like certain names fit them perfectly. Whatever it is, this tree was named because of the way it looks when it flowers. I can think of no better name than this to describe the speckles of yellow dripping from every branch when the tree is in bloom.

There are two golden shower trees in full bloom along Bukit Timah road between King Albert Park and Hwa Chong Junior College. Each time I pass them by I sigh because my hands are on the wheel and there is no way I can photograph them on my own. Well, the weekend beckons and that means that I can be the passenger instead of the driver and maybe next week, there will be pictures of these lovely trees on this blog.
