Torch ginger, Frangipani

If there were awards for flowers, the torch ginger should be nominated into the Most Popular category and be amongst the top ten in Singapore. It has presence, attraction and the quality to beckon from afar. The Frangipani flowers could take the prize for being an everbloom. Have you ever seen a frangipani tree without flowers? I have not. In whatever part of the year I see them, they are always dripping with flowers.

Fangipani - Plumeria blooms

Work-in-progress. Confucius said, "If you enjoy what you do for a living, you never have to work a day in your life." Not everyone truly enjoy what he or she does at work. Fortunately for me, painting is not work and painting flowers is pure joy because I have no deadlines to meet and best of all, no one to please. I photographed these flowers by the side of one of the swimming pools in Bintan Lagoon Resort many years ago. The colours on the photo have faded a little. In this acrylic painting, I want to bring out the fire in these flowers by using strong contrasts in colours of the petals against a background of blue water that will make the flowers smoulder.

Cool waters of a swimming pool bring out the rich colours of this bunch of frangipani flowers. They caught my attention some years back when I did not have a digital camera. Today, these flowers set the mood for a lovely day for the sun is shining again with just the right amount of sunlight and the air is cool.
