Flowers at the Singapore Botanic Gardens - Gingers

There were not too many ginger flowers at the garden today. Still, they made a difference to me.

Tapeinochilus ananassae - Giant Spiral Ginger, Indonesian Wax Ginger

Where else could I have seen these except in the Ginger Garden in the Singapore Botanic Gardens. A glimpse of red petals and then moving closer a whole family presented themselves. What a welcome! Their country of origin is Africa. Aren't we lucky to have them here.

The flowers were so small that I almost passed them by. Why I stopped and back-tracked I do not know. I am glad I did.

Sunday in the Park. Today, the ginger flowers were out, so many of them!

Ginger - Costus sp

A flower fairy dabbled with paints
from nature's store of colours
She lined the petals with brown and orange
then flew away in search of others
to light and delight
our senses with her artistic endeavours

I believe, from my reference of the 1001 Garden Plants in Singapore, that this flower belongs to the Costus malortieanus.
