Sunflower and Lotus buds

Unopened hearts struggling within
while the sun sends invitations to unfurl
Buds of doubts delay a new beginning
as the wind cast premonitions on its way
The heart of the flower beats cautiously
waiting for the ill winds to pass
The flower of the heart longs to bloom
longing for the daylight to come fast.

Sunflower

Sunflower in the Ho(r)tpark. Today was an extremely hot day. If I were out in the park today, I would have looked like this sunflower.

Flowers in paint

I have run out of interesting photos to upload so I thought perhaps I should post my paintings of flowers instead. These paintings are part of a bigger painting that is currently in progress. I have been procrastinating too long in my quest to paint but once I got started, I was hooked on the acitivity. I only wish that I could take a few weeks' break and disappear into some nice retreat with plenty of flowers and plants and just paint to my heart's content. As it is I only get to do this at night and the colours are rather 'cold' because of the flourescent lighting. Still, just getting hands-on with the acrylic paints and brushes is a great feeling!

Sunflowers for my friend Ellen

Ellen, I had originally wanted to post photos of sunflowers for you as promised. When I found those photos I suddenly felt like painting. This is not my best rendition of sunflowers in acrylic. Not yet, but it does prove to you that I am who I am.

Sunflower

I have been hiding from the heat the whole day. I wanted to go out and yet I did not want to be out in the sun. The solution was to drive from home to shopping centre so that I can enjoy air-conditioning throughout the journey and not have to battle it out at the crowded MRT stations and trains for seats. The last thing on my mind was to be out looking for flowers to photograph for this blog. The solution is to put up one of my humble paintings to show how I feel about today.

Helianthus annus - Sunflower

Family: Compositae
Origin: Western United States of America
The first story book that my mum bought for me when I was a child was about a sunflower that grew in a garden. It grew next to a humble daisy and when it achieved an impressive height it scoffed at the tiny flower from high above criticising it for being so insignificant.
One day a storm blew up and broke the back of the once mighty sunflower and it crashed down to earth and came face to face with the tiny daisy. The moral of the story is 'Pride goes before a fall'. Always remain humble in life no matter what your achievements or successes are.
