Bougainvillea - Khlong Fire

一大早的雨过了
留下相水晶的珠子
在华瓣上
被新日阳光
发出漂亮的彩虹
天气晴

black and white

What the world looks like
if colours take leave ...
Though we are not blind
we will be much deprived
of what we know had existed

But took for granted without a care
till we lose it without warning
There is no going back...

Rothmannia longiflora - Ivory Trumpet

I am posting these flowers taken in May last year to celebrate the re-birth of my portable hard disk that I thought had died. I had mourned its presumed demise, went through a phase of utter despair at having lost many precious photos, in particular these photos here. I saw these flowers at the VIP Corner of the National Orchid Garden and have not seen them anywhere else. What joy to see them here again.

Family: Rubiaceae

This shrub is from Tropical Africa and was featured in Gardenwise, the newsletter of the Singapore Botanic Gardens (Volume 28, January 2007). According to the information given, this shrub flowers easily and parts of it possess pain-relieving properties.

Cassia fistula - Golden Showers

It is possible that people take on characteristics projected by the sound of their names or the way the names look when written. Or is it the other way around that people are named because they just look like certain names fit them perfectly. Whatever it is, this tree was named because of the way it looks when it flowers. I can think of no better name than this to describe the speckles of yellow dripping from every branch when the tree is in bloom.

Amazon Water Lily

Cool flowers on cool water
This heat is getting me under the weather
Just looking at these long-ago flowers
Are enough to make my mind wander
to waterfalls, passing showers of blessing
from the heavens taking pity on us humans
sizzling in the heat of the day and wishing
that the world has no more natural disasters
wishing just for simplicity and joy
in all that we encounter

Passion Flower

Only one flower and it got my undivided attention for all of five minutes or so while my friend waited patiently for me to continue the walk from the Henderson Waves to the look-out point on Mount Faber.

Codiaeum variegatum cultivars - Croton

This is one of those plants that I take for granted the way people take wall flowers for granted. Their presence is noticed and then forgotten or relegated to the background. That is, until they decide to bloom. I have never seen flowers on this plant before. I wasn't even looking at them in particular till I almost backed into them while trying to frame a picture of the main gates of the Singapore Botanic Gardens. An unanticipated encounter resulted in these rare shots of croton flowers. Look out for the fruit too.

Blue ginger

This is my second post on the same flower in the Singapore Botanic Gardens. This time I got more than what met my eyes at the beginning of the photoshoot. I've got a guest model as well.
