Hibiscus in the sky

A pity that the sky was like a sheet of white paper the day I saw this red hibiscus from below. Oh well, nothing is ever perfect in this world and we just have to make do with what we have at any particular point in life.

Sansevieria trifasciata

The number of times I have seen this plant flowering can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Without the delicate sprigs of flowers, the leaves are mundane-looking. With common names like "Snake Plant" and "Mother-in-Law's tongue", it is no wonder the plant is unimpressive.

Ixora

Ixora blooms always make my day no matter where I see them. This time, I came across these superbly healthy plants and their flowers on the island of Batam, Indonesia. They stood tall and regal unlike the thick shrubs that we see in Singapore. What a feast for the eyes!

Melastoma malabathricum

What is in a name? This flower is called the Singapore Rhododendendron but it is said not to be a rhododendrum and it is not found only in Singapore as it also thrives over an area that covers Madagascar, India and Australia. I don't think the flower cares whether Singapore owns it or not for it is God's creation for all to enjoy. So why can't we enjoy Chilli Crab, Laksa, Nasi Lemak, Hainanese Chicken Rice without having to listen to people bickering about which country owns them? 真的好无聊。

These flowers were seen between the Henderson Waves and the road leading up to Mt. Faber.

Flowers growing in the wild
that I have never seen before
People passing by were curious like me
they stopped and took photos
Souvenirs of their walk
a good thing to do
to take without taking away
what others may enjoy after you leave

Hortpark Flowers - Colour Series (White)

These flowers were not growing in the HortPark. They were flower arrangements that were probably used for some function held earlier, perhaps a wedding. What attracted me to them was the lovely fragrance that they exude. My friend told me that she bought stalks of these flowers during Chinese New Year and combined them with large Chrysanthemum flowers to form a bouquet and placed mandarin oranges round them. It was a centrepiece in her dining area and was much admired by visitors to her house. She did not know the name of these flowers and I reckon that they must have been imported for my friend said that they lasted only about 4 days.

Hortpark Flowers - Colour Series (Yellow)

At the side of the glass houses, this unique banana plant seems to be flowering continuously. This time I saw three blooms instead of one.
