Palm

是花还是果?我不知道。这树是一种棕榈。看见这样特殊的大自然我只能拍照回家在漫漫欣赏。

Is this flower or fruit? I have no idea. This is a kind of palm tree. When I see this kind of unusual phenomenon in nature, what else could I do except take pictures so that I can appreciate it slowly at home.

Jatropha podagrica - Gout Stick

A long time ago, my neighbour gave me a pot of plant that I thought was very interesting and I accepted her gift. Although the flowers were not very attractive, the appearance of the plant seemed to portray a determination to be liked. It had beautiful leaves that were large complementing a cluster of small orange-coloured flowers supported by a long stalk. It was wonderful just as it was. It was a pity that I did not take good care of the plant because I was busy at work and had no time to treasure it. The plant died. My neighbour moved. What is lost is worth thinking about sometimes.

Morning Glory

Chinese was neither my first nor second language in school. In retrospect, it was one of the deepest regrets in my life that I had not learned Chinese in school. But one never stops learning anything and the best part about learning a language at this stage in my life is that I do it at my own time, my own pace and I pick and choose the subject matter and devise my own learning methods.

It may take me years before I am able to read and write Chinese proficiently. However with so many fantastic internet tools available, a whole new world has opened up for me through a language that should rightfully have been my mother tongue. It is never too late to learn and I am having the best learning experience of my life because there is no fixed curriculum, no exams, no pressure to excel and best of all I learn because I want to at my own pace and at my own time. I will be making mistakes here and there I am sure but these are part and parcel of learning to use a language.

“你看这边有一朵白色的喇叭花 ,” 一位妈妈对她孩子说。 还好我听到因为我也是没看过这类花。
“Look there is a white trumpet flower over here," a mother said to her son. It was good that I heard what she said because I, too, have not seen such a flower.
通常这些花是紫色。我觉得我那天是幸运能见到这样特别的一朵花。
Usually, such flowers are purple in colour. I felt that I was lucky that day for being able to see such an unusual flower.

Flowers that bloom in an unexpected place

Yellow RibbonCommunity Art Exhibition 2008
Prison Art
by people seeking a second chance
imprisoned by their deeds
set free by their quests
to make good when they are out
I read about this exhibition by prison inmates
and I went to take a look today
I am touched by their talents, their voices
and their struggles within themselves
and their willingness to turn over a new leaf
supported by the Yellow Ribbon Project
and all the people who believe in them.

There were many beautiful paintings and art pieces at the exhibition and on the website of the Yellow Ribbon Project. I have selected only those on flowers for this blog. For people who have lost their way in life, being able to see flowers in this light must be an indication that they have not lost hope.

Sansevieria trifasciata,

This is a long overdue post of flowers that I have so far seen only twice in my life so far. This plant is commonly known as the mother-in-law's tongue and most of us are more used to seeing only the sharp-edged leaves with yellow trimmings with a demeanour that is none too pleasant to have in a home garden. But when you see the flowers, you easily forget the not very flattering name of this plant. Why? Because the flowers come so rarely that when you do see them it would be like striking a lottery.

Anarcadium occidentale - Cashew Nut

I love cashew nuts, also almonds and walnuts and all these years, I never gave a thought about what the flowers might look like. Then I visited a farm in Kranji and saw the tree, flowers and leaves for the first time. The cashew nuts were not ready to show me what they looked like on a tree, so there is still something more about this tree that would keep me interested. For now, here are the flowers of the Cashew Nut Tree.

No reason

No reason for these photos other then
I like the mood, I like the colours
Banana and Ginger, the name does not matter
Because today they are just - flowers

Kopsia fruticosa

Yes! Finally I have flowers that do a great deal to beautify this blog the way they beautified the HortPark with their pretty shades of pink. Friday flowers - anticipation.
